If you’re looking to make pies, try this AIP Pie Crust. It’s tasty, crisp and the perfect pair with any pie filling.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Beth Blends Grain Free Flour Blend
- 1/8 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 cup Lard, Palm Shortening or Butter, cold
- 1/4 cup Water
- 1/4 cup Maple Syrup
Directions
- Combine all the dry ingredients then stir to combine.
- Next add in the maple syrup and water then stir to combine.
Add in the lard, then using a pastry blender (fork or food processor), combine the lard. The dough should look like crumbles. And the lard should be small and evenly distributed.
- To create the crust, put a layer of parchment paper down on a flat surface. Dust with flour. Place the dough in the center. Dust with additional flour then place another piece of parchment on top. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out until it’s about 1/8 inch thick. Take care that the parchment doesn’t stick. You can remove the top parchment and the put it back. Carefully flip the dough. And then remove the parchment to ensure that it doesn’t stick.
- Next transfer the dough to the pie pan. Using a fork, gently flatten the edges with the pronged. Then poke holes in the pie crust to keep it from rising.
- For no bake pies, bake the pie crust at 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees or until golden. There are no other baking times listed because it depends upon the pie.
Recipe Note
- If you prefer, you can make this dough in a food processor. Just add all the dry ingredients, pulse to combine. Then add the wet ingredients and again pulse to combine.
- Take care that the parchment doesn’t stick when rolling out the dough. You can remove the top parchment and the put it back. Carefully flip the dough. And then remove the parchment to ensure that it doesn’t stick.
- If you prefer, you can place the dough directly in the pie pan and using your hands create the crust. However, it’s harder to get the crust thin enough.
- You can use either lard or palm shortening. However, lard is preferred.
- Make sure the lard is chilled. It makes it easier to handle the dough.
- For no bake pies, bake the pie crust at 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees or until golden. There are no other baking times listed because it depends upon the pie.
- If you’re looking for an AIP Pumpkin Pie filling, I used the filling from the no-bake recipe from The Honest Spoonful.
