Gluten Free Cream of Mushroom Soup


This homemade, creamy and gluten free cream of mushroom soup recipe, can be made with less than 10 ingredients in 30 minutes! It’s lovely on its own or as a substitute for canned cream of mushroom soup.

Is there gluten in cream of mushroom soup? Is canned cream of mushroom gluten free?

Traditionally, if something is ‘creamy’ or thickened, then it probably has wheat flour in it. If you are buying store bought or canned creamed of mushroom soup, then you need to read the label because you need to make sure that gluten isn’t in the ingredients nor is there a chance of cross contamination. The label will usually state if it’s produced in a facility that also produces wheat products.

How to use Gluten Free Cream of Mushroom Soup

Our homemade recipe for gluten free cream of mushroom soup is a great substitute for canned cream of mushroom soup is lots of dishes such as:

Can I freeze gluten free cream of mushroom soup?

Yes! This would make a great recipe to double and then store extras in the freezer for when you need it.

 

Ingredients

  • Ghee: Grass Fed Butter, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Coconut oil, Bacon grease, or Avocado oil are a good substitute. Use Extra Virgin Olive Oil, coconut oil, bacon grease or avocado oil for AIP. And use something plant based for Vegan.
  • White Mushrooms: Cremini mushrooms would be a good substitute.
  • Onion
  • Salt
  • Garlic cloves
  • Beth Blends Gravy Mix
  • Bone Broth: Any broth or stock is a good substitute. Make sure to use vegetable broth for Vegan.
  • Milk: Any non-dairy milk will be fine if you are dairy free or Vegan. Make sure to use coconut milk for AIP.
  • Ground Black Pepper: This is optional for AIP diet.

How to make Gluten Free Cream of Mushroom Soup

1. In a large stock pot, add oil of your choice to pan. Once hot, add the mushrooms, onions, garlic and pinch of salt. Sauté for about 5 minutes. Or until the onions are translucent, the mushrooms are brown, and they have reduced in size.

2. Add the Gluten Free Gravy Mix and stir until well incorporated.

3. Next add the broth and milk. Then bring everything to a boil, stirring occasionally until the soup has thickened, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Then serve or use in another dish as substitute for canned cream of mushroom soup.

Tips for making Gluten Free Cream of Mushroom Soup

  • Make sure to slice the mushrooms thin otherwise it will affect cooking times.
  • To make this dairy free, make sure to use a plant-based milk.
  • To make this AIP, make sure to use AIP friendly broth, oil, coconut milk and omit ground black pepper.
  • To make this vegan, make sure to use vegetable broth and plant-based milk.
  • Cremini mushrooms would make a great substitute for white mushrooms.
