Is chocolate allowed on AIP?

Nope. Chocolate, cocoa powder and cacao are considered beans or seeds which are not allowed during the elimination stage of the autoimmune protocol.

Substitutes for Chocolate on AIP

If you’re missing chocolate, don’t worry. Carob powder is a good substitute. We use it frequently in our AIP baking recipes such as our AIP ‘Chocolate’ Mug Cake, AIP ‘Chocolate’ Chip Cookies, 1 Minute Microwave Dairy Free Brownies (Paleo, Egg Free and AIP Option).

Can you eat bananas on AIP?

Yes! Although be mindful of the number of bananas and amount of sugar in general as the AIP diet limits it to 20mg a day. [source] We use bananas in this recipe to help give it a cake-like texture and add sweetness. But you don’t taste the bananas.

Ingredients

  • Beth Blends Grain Free Flour Blend

How to make AIP Chocolate Donuts with AIP Chocolate Sauce

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease donut pan then set aside.

2. To make the donuts, combine the flour, carob powder, banana, honey and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl until smooth.

3. Spoon the batter into donut pan or pipe into pan using a plastic bag. Then place in the oven for about 12 minutes.

4. Remove from the oven, place the donuts on a wire rack and let cool.
